Le participe passé
When to use
The past participle is used in French is used either in compound verbs as the past participle itself or as a past tense adjective. Its English equivalents are as follows:
  1. Past participle
    The past tense that has the '-en' or '-ed' ending.
    Eg. I have taken the recipe.
  2. Past tense adjective
    The adjectives that are verbs in the past tense.
    Eg. She is exhausted.

Examples of use
Eg. 1)
Nous avons avec notre professeur.
We have with our teacher.
Eg. 2)
Aussitôt que l'empereur eut le traité, la guerre se termina.
As soon as the emperor had the treaty, the war ended.
Eg. 3)
Les photos par ta sœur.
The photos by your sister.

How to conjugate
Drop the final 'er', 'ir' or 're' of the infinitive of the verb and add the following endings. The infinitive of the verb is plain form of the verb that is found in a dictionary.
Verbes -er -ER verbs
Verbes -ir -i -IR verbs
Verbes -re -u -RE verbs

Notable points
  1. Adjective agreement
    It is important to remember that when past participles are used as adjectives, they need to agree with the noun they're describing in number and gender. The following example has a noun that is singular and masculine, therefore the adjective doesn't need to change.
    Le trésor vaut une fortune !

    But in the following example, the noun is feminine and plural. Therefore, the adjective needs to be modified.
    Ces robes-ci sont en France.
